This is the advanced version of Video No.5 and deals with the very rare push hands techniques of "P'eng/Hinge", "Square", and "Small Circle Ch'i-na" Pushing Hands. This is where we learn about T'ai Chi and the push hands for fighting and not just to gain  timing balance and coordination. Many more techniques are also covered for the more normal "p'eng, lu, chi, arn" pushing hands. This is where you get serious about learning Taijiquan! This is where you leave behind your basic training and especially your basic pushing hands which essentially is flawed because it is for beginners. It is impossible to teach beginners advanced methods, so in teaching beginners the way of push hands has to be modified so that the stark beginner can understand what to do. Sadly, most people only ever see this basic level or "I push you, you push me"! However, there ARE no pushes in Taijiquan as it is a most devastating martial art and it would bring disaster to push someone in a real fighting situation! So when you get to the advanced method, you begin to learn Taijiquan as a real streetwise self-defence art and not a silly pushing sport! Push hands at its more advanced levels is the very best training method to teach self-defence.

1. Basic Push Feet Pong-lui-ghi-ang. Push Hands Big open circles. Timing balance coordination. Does not teach self defence and fighting and to redirect an on coming force.

2. Advanced Push Hand - Pong Hinge. Push Hand, Small Circle Chee na, and no circle push hands. Movements are very small every movement is a strike to a point on the human body to cause a knockout, paralyze or kill.

3. Training Method

A. Single Push hand using the other hand to push his arm across and change direction or take it under and attack from the side as a self defence application, an advances method of this application by adding a punch and block all movement comes from the waist.

Push hand Body mechanics when the force comes in go on a diagonal plane not just setting straight forward and straight back or you will go off balance. Timing, balance and coordination prerequisite of any martial art.

Push hand training cam show your balance is off with an easy push.

Move the yin leg (front on back leg) in defence of a strong push. Yang by is the weighted leg.

4. Training Method techniques to get grounded and centred by keeping the mind on the tan tien no on a point were you may be hit. Technique includes being pushed from front of the rear.

5.     A. P'eng Training method

        B. Running P'eng training Method

6. Advanced Push hand method called Hinge Push Hands

Push Hand training

A. Closing the door - defence method

B. Opening the door - attack method

C. Locking the door - attack method

D. Closing the iron gate

E. Taking on foot off the ground push hands.

7. P'eng Hinge Pushing hand - also called Square Push Hands because it has a square in the middle of it. P'eng Hinge used to defend and attack.

8. Small Circle Push Hands like P'eng Hinge push hand but make the circle smaller. Trying to get locks on the opponent using Fa Jing and small pattern movements use elbows finger pokes.

9. Chi Sau advanced form simultaneous blocks and attacks.

The Secret Houses of Yang are what makes Taijiquan great. This is what distinguishes the 'red herring' Tai Chi from the real thing. What makes a silly, 'you push me, I push you' tai chi into a real fighting self defence system. These 12 houses or rings as they were often called, were what the Masters taught only their most treasured and trusted students and or family members and even went as far as giving us all the wrong information to stop us from getting the 'family jewels' as Yang Sau-chung once told me. Why is it that we are told that Tai Chi ch'uan means 'Supreme Ultimate Fighting' when we are taught this silly thing of Pushing Hands? Why would you want to do that? You do not push each other in real fighting. This way of pushing hands was also a red herring to keep us off the trail of the real thing of 'Joining Hands', which is the way that we are taught how to fight in Tai Chi. Joining Hands is en eye opening experience and will probably answer many of your questions and fears about learning how to use Tai Chi for fighting.
Erle Montaigue teaches in this volume the third house of Yang, the way of Joining Hands, how to feel the weight and deal with it, how to stop an attack with only two inches of movement, how to really move a force of 4000 lbs with only 4 oz. That is what it tells us in the classics so this is what w e should do!
