Please note. For those not wanting to do some of the more martial partner training, you can feel free to work on your Taiji slow form or Qigong, Eli will be there to give you extra tips and answer questions while he teaches the partner drills. Or simply take a break.
Day 1 Saturday 17th:
11am - Warm Up.
Here we will all flow through a series of movements to get all the joints moving for the day.
11:15am - Qigong.
A flow through Qigong routine. Something very simple that everyone is able to follow, sometime moving, sometimes standing still, sometimes sitting. Setting up the Qi for the day.
11:30am - Taiji YLC Form.
Beginners will be taught through the form from scratch. Those who already know the form can either join in with the lesson, or practice any other section of the Taiji or the Bagua form, then Eli will come around to give advice and corrections.
12:30pm - Interactive Pad Work, Drill 1.
This is where we learn how to strike, for use in a fight or to give you a better understanding of how to move the body in your Taiji Qigong. Working with a partner, you will be given a combination pattern of strikes to perform on the pads. Your pad holder will then do their job of moving the pads at the right time to cause you to miss, teaching you about balance and control.
1:30pm Break
2:30pm - Chinese Boxing, Drill 1.
Carrying on from the pad work, using the same kind of strikes, we have a set of attack defence partner drills to teach you correct timing of movement, this is a great way for everyone to train and is a stepping stone into free sparring.
3:30pm - Sticky Hands, Stages 1 & 2.
Sticky hands is where we learn about sensitivity and connecting to your partner. This is a wonderful exercise, as it can be done like a partner Qigong method for those not wanting to fight, or as a fighting drill for those who do. Sticky hands as a fighting method is where things get a closer and more tied up compared to the Chinese boxing drills. Keeping your hands on your opponent at all times is key, making for a very effective fighting method when you're in a tight space or when you can't see well.
4:30pm - Cool down stretch and qigong.
Here we close off the day, nurturing the body with gentle stretching and relaxation.
